One hundred days in Malaysia! Say what?! Time has flown and flies quicker every day. I'm in a list making mood, so bear with me. The following will be 100 things, separated into groups of 10, that are somewhat organized thoughts about my time here so far. Enjoy!

Top 10 Things I Still Find Weird (But Good) About Malaysia
  1. Cats are everywhere. In school, in the doctors office, everywhere.
  2. Driving on the other side of the road
  3. British English. People pronounce Asia as Ayseea
  4. How everyone is fluent in at least 2 languages
  5. How lazy some people can be!
  6. The outlets
  7. The balance between Westernized aspects of the country and traditional culture
  8. There's only one main tv provider (Astro)
  9. Radio stations that play Call me Maybe followed by a slow dramatic Malay song
  10. The K-pop obsession!

  7. Never using a knife to eat
  8. Showering 2-3 times a day
  9. Always being hungry
  10. Mixing English and Malay in the same sentence
Top 10 Differences Between my Malaysian School and my US High School
  1. Uniforms
  2. All girl's school here
  3. Lack of Substitute teachers
  4. You can buy everything from burgers to tomyam in the canteen
  5. No lockers
  6. A lot of the school is outdoors
  7. 40 students in a class, and you stay with that class all day
  8. 90-100 is an A+, not 97-100
  9. Teachers may switch languages in the middle of sentences
  10. Prefects

  1. If you want something done, do it yourself.
  2. You don't know how strong you are until something forces you to find out.
  3. You don't appreciate what you have until you're 10,000 km away from it
  4. It's up to you to determine your mood from the day
  5. Some people have misguided intentions, and you have to deal with it
  6. Never lose sight of who you are
  7. Appreciate doing nothing, focus on just being
  8. It's impossible to be completely involved with two lives at once
  9. Not every day is going to be an adventure. Pay attention to the little things
  10. Never ever ever judge a book by its cover

Why am I here? Here is Malaysia, here is a second family and a group of exchange students turned family from all over the world. Here is a beautifully rich and diverse culture with beautiful, incredible people. Here is a school and a class full of friends. Here is Malaysia, here is home.

    I know you will be a different American after you return home just like me, after I have stayed in US I returned home as a different Malaysian. We understand better every time when "ignorant people" have adverse views on the country which you visit and stay.

  5. Good list, Hannah. I wouldn't be able to list my fav food though cos there's just too many! oh and I actually laughed out loud at 'sleeping extensive amounts haha! Yep, guilty as charged but ONLY on some weekends when I'm able! :P

  7. if Malaysian schools adopt the US school systems.. more kids will try their best to skip classes... or even skip school..

    but with Malaysian School System (originally British School System). kids are ensured that they stayed at school the whole time.

  8. i have to agree on you about public bathrooms/toilets in Malaysia. its horrified! so u cant really use the phrase, " when u got to go, u got to go" here in Malaysia:)

  9. I've even interviewed caucasian tourists for my assignment. They said the same thing! they hate the public bathroom :p

    British english...because we were ruled/colonised by British :)

  11. Even me (a Malaysian) dislikes going to public toilets.
    I can give several nice public toilets though, only in KLCC, Pavilion, Gardens had the best public toilets by far..
    As you can see its in malls and in the city centre, others are blergh.
    Gardens had the best public toilets! so damn clean and big all for yourself ahahhahaaha...
